Tramore AFC FIFA 12 Competition

FIFA 12 II
Our Second FIFA 12 competition went down as well as the first one and this time there were two different players that made the final. Many thanks again to Jamie Hunt, Micky Condron and Matthew Connor for supplying equipment on the night. Also a big thanks to Brendan Kelly who brought along a projector so games could be played on a huge projected image which was a great feature. A turn out of almost 40 players turned out on the night for a chance to win this tough competition and guests on the night included chairman John Power, Stuart Kennedy and Paul Power. The senior members of the club were delighted to see so many young people enjoying themselves in a productive manner.

The competition got underway and as early as the first round there was plenty talking points. One was a certain young lad picking the World XI and weather this was in the spirit of the competition? He did not go on to win it so maybe the players on that team are not the good? The Furlong twins met in the second round and after a good battle it was Conor who came out on top by 3-1. The ever impressive Ben Palmer had a fine 3-1 win in the second round also. The last 16 games were a much tighter affair and it got underway when Jamie Schley took out David McCracken on penalties. Micky Condron went through after taking down Ben Palmer 1-0 but the big upset was holder Gary Hunt losing out to his nephew Jamie Hunt by a goal to nil.

The Q/F matches provided some great entertainment and none more than the game between Jamie Hunt and Conor Furlong. Running commentary by the majority of Conors current u13 teammates had the room in tears of laughter and further highlighted why these nights are so much fun. This however did not deter Jamie who managed to beat Conor 2-0. Lenny was also going along nicely securing a 2-0 win over Damien Rockett to book a spot in the semi finals. The semi final line up was Michael Condron v Stephen Lenihan & Michael Chan v Jamie Hunt. Lenny easily won the first semi 3-0 but Mickey will be disappointed how he performed and will want the chance of a re match sooner rather than later no doubt. The other semi wasnt decided until the last kick of the game. Drawing 1-1 the game was destined for penalties until a mix up in Chan's box meant Jamie got the elusive winner to book his spot in the final.
The final was a repeat of the previous one, Real Madrid v Barcelona or Jamie Hunt v Stephen Lenihan. Lenny had beat Jamie in the previous competition and had the psychological edge but the game was very close. Lenny went one up but Jamie replied to level it up. However Lenny scored again to put him in the lead. Jamie could not break down the defence until the final minute but the pass he chose was to an offside player when clear on goal. So Lenny ran out triumphant and deserved it on the night. Well done to all involved and hopefully we can get this going again soon.

FIFA 12 I
On Friday October 21st, Tramore AFC hosted its first games console night and the response from club members was tremendous. The competition was for FIFA 12 football fame for the Playstation 3. In the end 44 players registered to play ranging from the young to parents of the kids and coaches. Firstly we must thank Owen Kavanagh, Jamie Hunt, Shane Hunt, Michael Condron for supplying equipment on the night for the games to be played. Without this we may have had to bring sleeping bags!
Here is a lowdown of the latter stages. The first semi final was a tight affair, 0-0 up to 80minutes until Gary finally broke the deadlock and went on to secure his place in the final with a 3-0 win. The other semi was also hottly contested. Conor Furlong versus Lenny with some running commentary/coaching by Paul Power (Witchie) who was struggling to come to terms with why Messi was not running the show? Lenny was one up but Conor supported by his u13 teammates pulled a goal back to force penalties. Conor kept his nerve to book his place in the final. So it was u13 manager/competition organiser versus u13 player in the final. Gary Hunt taking on Conor Furlong. Overall there were some players who could have made the final but were unlucky in their matches not to progress and all players must be credited for their enthusiasm on the night. No goals in the first half and the crowd were talking about penalties until Gary struck even though Conor had the majority of the play. In the end Gary ran out winner but credit to conor for putting in some great displays on the night. Well done to all that participated and it may well be that this could happen again after such good feedback this time round.
